The Season of Winter

It is winter out. The beginning of March and there are huge drifts everywhere. When January hit, I was ready for the snow to all go away. I know it won’t last forever, but the first three months of the year are usually the hardest to get through. I get impatient for spring and the winter blues settle in. But one thing I do love about this time of the year is how beautiful and magical the world can get. After a big snowstorm, the snow is smooth and fluffy and perfect for jumping into. The frost clings to the trees and anything else that grows in the middle of winter.

The world seems almost flawless and the desire to jump about the drifts like when I was younger is overwhelming. Perhaps one day I will be old enough to do that again. A day will come when I don’t care about getting soaked in the snow and the cold doesn’t seem to bother me like it does now. I have many wonderful memories of playing in the snow and then coming back inside, my nose red and my hair wet from the snow and making hot cocoa while watching a movie. I sometimes long for those days again. Maybe one day I will learn to play in the snow once again. To enjoy the colder seasons and see them not as an annoying season that takes forever to change and more so as a marshmallow world, full of magic and wonder.
