Sculpting a Wire Tree

Medium: Wire

Supplies: 20 gauge wire, pliers, wire cutters, large rock, decorative gems (optional)

Tips and Tricks: When working with wire, it’s good to figure out how shapable it is. I’ve had 20 gauge wire that was made for agricultural jobs, but also 20 gauge wire that’s made for actual crafting. It’s a lot easier using the type for crafting. Though the other kind can be done, it’s much harder and causes pain in your hands in some cases.

Pitfalls (aka, what I learned the hard way): The more wire the better. I’m very good at making a plan and sometimes sticking with it. In this case, I had planned out the amount of wire I would use, without doing any research. The lengths of wire I had cut were much too short for the over all look I was going for and I was feeling a little stingy so I didn’t use nearly enough. Don’t be afraid to use the whole spool if you have to.

Outcome: Overall, I was very pleased with the outcome, if you looked at it you knew it was a tree resting on a rock. However, because I didn’t use enough wire it looked like a very stingy tree. Though I am going to keep trying and maybe one day I will follow an accurate plan 🙂
