Double Exposure in Photoshop

Medium: Double exposure in photoshop

Supplies: Adobe Photoshop, your imagination

Over the few weeks I’ve been brainstorming ways that I could play around in Photoshop. Thus, I discovered the double exposure “technique.”

Step 1: Quick select subject.

Step 2: Command – J to duplicate image.

Step 3: Delete or “vanish” the original photo’s layer.

Step 4: Use the crop tool to enlarge the canvas and give it a background color.

Step 5: Subject layer selected, go to Image, Adjustments, Desaturate.

Step 6: Open the other desired photo and drag onto the first image, lowing the opacity to about 50%.

Step 7: Command – T to adjust the landscape image, placing it wherever you want to, flipping it horizontal or vertical as desired, and raise the opacity again.

Step 8: Press Command and click on the subject layer.

Step 9: Copy the subject layer and place it above all other layers.

Step 10: Play around with the blending mode. I used vivid light.

Step 11: Lower opacity if need be. Dink around with it.

Step 12: Copy the landscape layer, and adjust the blending mode. I used the same one as before.

Step 13: Crop image if desired and choose a background color if need be.

Step 14: There is no step fourteen! See, it’s that easy! ;D

Outcome: Overall, I think the outcome turned out pretty cool. It almost looks a little sci-fi like which is always a sick look. And while I could’ve masked out the subject’s hair a bit better, I was on a tight schedule :). But either way, I highly recommend you try it out. Just playing around leads to so many new ideas.
