Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving elicits a wonderful feeling of nostalgia for me. My family would visit my great aunt and uncle and their children and grandchildren, the family we never got to see throughout the rest of the year. But every thanksgiving they would bring about a most welcome atmosphere and the holiday just brings back such wonderful memories.

One memory in particular is of my grandma, great aunt, sister, and I playing cards for hours on end, constantly visiting the food table and no one cared. So that would be one activity to try with relatives. Phase 10, Apples to apples, Trash, Spicy Uno, Tenzi, or Spoons are a favorite of my family’s to play. Spoons and Spicy Uno can get so chaotic, and it is the most fun! We laugh and exchange snarky remarks that cause more laughter and no one cares of the noise or comments.

A few other activities to do this holiday would be to try new fall recipes.

Paint thanksgiving themed images or take photographs of little fall scenes. Random or set up, either way it’s lovely.

Try a new hobby – which can be done at any time of the year and while no one needs an excuse to try something new, the holiday is sometimes a quite enjoyable time to go about doing it.

A favorite activity on Thanksgiving is to watch football, much like many families across the country. Go Vikings!

The last one may be a little cliché but I do love it. It is to take the week and think and meditate on the many things to be thankful for. There is so much the Lord has given every one of us and we can always be thankful, even in the hard times. If we can worship, then we can be thankful.
