At the end of my two school years, I took part in a portfolio show where folks from the graphic design industry could come and see what the students of the media and digital media design programs can do.
The show was a rousing success, there were quite a few industry folks who came, and getting to visit the different people was a fun experience!
Here are a few tips that I learned throughout the process:
- Manage your time effectively. No one knows you better than you, so you’ll know how much to add to your day. Whether you’re in school or work, managing your time is a skill worth learning. But knowing how much to add or how little to add to your day is also equally as important. Planning out a week or month in advance is a great way to be sure you’re getting everything done on time.
- Run your own race. I caught myself comparing where I was with other students throughout preparing for the show. Focusing on yourself and what you know you need to do is the best way to get things done. Comparing yourself to others is a recipe for disaster and it only leaves you feeling discouraged.
- Remember that stress is a part of life and trying to avoid it is impossible. But if you let it run your life then you’re set to crash. Keeping a good attitude and remembering the two other tips before is the best solution for a fast-coming deadline. Just because you’re in crunch time doesn’t give you the excuse to let waterfalls of stress wash over you. You’ll be left feeling exhausted and won’t enjoy the moments as much as you could.
